I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and grew up enjoying the fauna, flora, and natural beauty of the area. As a child, our family would camp, hike, fish, and ski together. I grew up in an artistic family. My Father loved classical music and sang in the choir. He created many things including an airplane and a cabin. My Mother was always working on a number of art projects, and sewed, but her true love was china painting on porcelain. She had a kiln in the basement and each piece needed to be painted and fired 5 times. My brother Jim could often be found working in our father’s shop. He was very good at woodworking. My brother, Roy Tomlinson, got an undergraduate degree (BFA) from San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), and then got his graduate degree (MFA) from UC Berkeley. He is an oil painter, and is currently an Associate Professor at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNAU) in Portland, Oregon.
I went to the University of Washington and earned a degree in Botany, and then went on to get a degree in Laboratory Medicine. I worked as a Medical Technologist and Clinical Chemist for 18 years. I later changed careers and became the Office Manager and CFO of an Employee Benefits Company. After the company was sold, I wanted to do something that I loved. I decided that painting would be a great choice. I have been working diligently on exploring my art. I joined the Mt Si Artist Guild which offers me much inspiration and exposure to various artistic enrichment experiences. It also offers a talented group of friends all with a love of art. I often work in the mediums of acrylics and pastels.
I currently live in a “bungalow” in the foothills of the Cascades on 5 acres with my musical husband, Jonathan. My sister-in-law, Joanne Hanson Adams, was an accomplished painter and I was influenced by her creative talent as well. I am drawn to paint nature, and the beauty that surrounds our world and Snoqualmie Valley. My studio is in a small room in our home.
